About Chris in English
Chris in English was started by me, Chris Wylie, who has been an English as a Second Language teacher since 1994. And I have to tell you, I love it. In that time I have taught at 3 different schools, I have tutored, and I have taught private classes. When I first started this site, it was a way to collect and share some of my grammar lessons. But now I am expanding that mission to include reaching out to students who want to improve their English and the teachers who want to help them.
I didn't start off as an ESL teacher. My first career was in theater, which is where I learned my love of English. I have performed mostly in San Diego, but I did do a couple of low budget touring shows in my youth, an adventure I would not exchange for anything! Of course, there are some skills that translate from theater to teaching. I work hard not just to teach my students, but to engage them as I would engage an audience. After marrying and starting a family, I transitioned from theater to teaching full time. And that is where you find me now.
Looking to the future, I predict that I will continue teaching, but I also predict that the ESL industry as a whole will be increasingly moving online. I am happy to say I am excited and ready for this transition. And I am excited for all of the new friends, students and teachers, I will get to make though this new teaching channel.
If you have questions about English, if you need a tutor or if you are hoping to join a class, let me know. I am always excited to share my language and experience with others. And, of course, welcome to Chris in English.
